About Jasmine Wright
Rising senior, student-athlete, six-time All-American & All-Academic and John B. Ervin Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU). In the words of Jim McLeod, founding director of the John B. Ervin Scholars Program, “Learning is not a spectator sport” and I am taking these words to heart. WashU has provided me the perfect balance of academic rigor and athletics. I am a product of an early childhood Montessori education and understand the concept of being a lifelong learner and doing just that as I continue to pursue my passions. This passion was fed in high school with courses in Engineering Design and Civil Engineering and Architecture. My first-year studies at WashU included courses in macro and micro-economics, calculus, statistics, computer science and object-oriented programming, specifically Java, and physics to build on my strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Sophomore year I enjoyed courses in health economics, organizational behavior, principles of financial accounting and German. I continue to enjoy classes where I can explore my interests in interpreting and analyzing data to better understand different aspects of business fluctuations, monetary and fiscal policies as well as unemployment, the demand for health care, the role of health insurance and other economic, social and political issues. I am particularly interested in the application of economics to analyze policies here and abroad. In addition to my pursuits in Economics and German, I carve out time to explore other interests in art history and music, specifically my study of the cello. I currently train with Kenneth Kulosa, in the Washington University music department.
