ABOUT JASMINDER CLAIR

From the age of 16, I have been volunteering at charity shops, one of which I am still at three years later. Being part of the team at Oxfam Books has developed my communication and organisation skills. My personal passion for reading and music and building relationships with customers has made this that much more of an enjoyable experience. Being able to work with a team who are in various stages of life and are full of knowledge and passion is something I look for in my future career too.Since the beginning of Sixth Form, I have also worked as a tutor at Explore Learning. Being a part of these children\'s education and witnessing their personal growth, not only throughout their schooling but their lives in general, has been an extremely valuable experience and has also given me the skills required to explain concepts and processes in various ways as one may do with clients. To gain an insight into what a legal career involves, I completed two weeks work experience at two in-house legal departments at Calor Gas and the Warwickshire County Council. These opportunities allowed me to sit in on client meetings and engage in a wide range of legal research in areas such as metered estates and human rights. Additionally, I attended court to watch a sentencing which showed me the advocacy side of the law but also how a victim is affected by such crimes.I am currently a student in my second year of university studying law. Pursuing this degree has enhanced my problem solving and critical analysis skills in particular. Throughout the year, I completed various pieces of virtual work experience to explore the sectors of law I may want to pursue. I am now in the process of researching and applying for the vacation schemes and training contracts offered by law firms. Not only is this a step towards my career but gaining further experience of working in real-life legal settings aiding clients is vital to understanding how the law operates in practice. The combination of this tutoring, volunteering and legal work experience has given me the opportunity to learn how the world works giving me a skill set that will be valuable in a legal career.
