ABOUT JARRITT SHEEL
I have spent the last decade and a half performing and researching Popular American Music (i.e. Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul, Punk, Rock music. I have reached out to numerous musicians and teachers to find out what makes and breaks a great musician. During my undergraduate and graduate degrees I spent much of my time performing my trumpet in jazz, funk, gospel, and hip-hop music with various bands. I feel that my other major responsibility was to the advocacy for arts education programs across my community and the Nation. After attaining my M.M. In Jazz Studies from Northern Illinois University, I moved to Orlando, FL to perform and teach music to the masses (high school & college). I graduated with my second Masters degree (EdM) in education from Teachers College, Columbia University in Fall 2015. I am currently a doctoral candidate in music & music education program at Teachers College, Columbia University with a graduation date of Spring 2018. This is a great opportunity to be in New York City, around tons of art, and culture, and also to become more knowledgeable in my subject, and study the process of research. Starting Fall 2017 I will be teaching music education courses at The New York University (NYU), and will be returning to Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) assisting in the high school youth orchestra program. The goal of my personal life and professional career is to share great music and the understanding around this question \"what culture is?\" as well as the fact that culture brokering is the best way to facilitate sharing. My future goal for my musical career (personal and professional) is to start a family (children), create a family business (tech), work with a national arts advocacy group, broaden the scope of my music consulting firm, and become a permanent faculty member of a school of music. Specialties: Jazz, Classical, Funk, and Hip-Hop performance. Giving clinics, teaching, and directing large and small ensembles.
