About Jared Souney

I\'m a hands-on Art Director / Graphic Designer and Photographer with a studio in SE Portland, Oregon. I migrated here in 2007 after working in Southern California, Pennsylvania, and Boston. Trained in design, my early photography was self-taught, eventually getting a crash course from working professionals in my early magazine roles. In the late \'90s-early \'00s I was the Associate Editor / Senior Photographer for Ride BMX Magazine and BMX Business News. Since then, my photo and writing work has been featured in and on the covers of dozens of publications around the world including Ride BMX, Dig, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Sports Illustrated for Women,Alternative Press, BMX Plus, Ride UK, ESPN the Magazine, SOMA and more. Commercial clients past and present include Red Bull, Target, Mountain Dew, Etnies, DC Shoes, Woodward Camp, The Tony Hawk Foundation, Specialized Bicycles, Hoffman Bikes, Oakley, Vans, Boost Mobile, Amp Energy Drink, Right Guard. In addition to photography, I\'ve also worked as a designer and art director throughout my entire journey. From 20••••17 my studio, Souney Media, was a driving force behind the popular snowboard media company Yobeat, which we built into one of the most trafficked snowboard web sites / social media audiences in the world, as well a global apparel brand — sold direct online, and distributed to shops around the world in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, Korea and Australia. The brand still operates out of Seoul, South Korea. For over a decade (20••••17) I was deeply embedded in creative and marketing projects with the Woodward family of summer camps (Woodward, Woodward West, Woodward at Copper, Woodward Boreal) and the Woodward brand globally.In 2017 I launched a manufacturing and idea shop / design outfit called Ransom Six Mfg, and have been working under that name since. Ransom Six has it\'s own line of small-batch, in-house produced products including cut and sew bags and shop coats — all products I designed. R6 includes a full production sewing shop, screen print shop, photo studio, and large scale archival photo printing operation. I also continue to do my own outside client photo shoots, design work, and art direction work under the R6 name. In 2020 I published a 400-page hard cover photo book called \"Things Seen Along the Way: BMX Freestyle 19••••14.\" The monograph was printed in a limited run of 250 signed and numbered copies, and sold out in only a few days.    Ransom Six is a independent design and photo studio that also produces it\'s own line of apparel and accessories out of Southeast Portland, Oregon. The studio focusses on Graphic Design / Photography / Art Direction / Marketing / Digital and Analog Ideas – all things brand, marketing, and content — I lead the charge. Ransom Six is also a brand of its own — with a line of in-house made, 1940s workwear inspired products including cut and sew bags and jackets — and a publisher, having released the 2020, 404 page hardcover photo book \"Things Seen Along the Way: BMX Freestyle 19••••14,\" in addition to several smaller publications.
