About Jan-Michael Carrillo
I am a Senior Research Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) specializing in computational materials science, soft matter physics, and polymer modeling. My research focuses on developing and applying molecular simulation techniques to understand the structure, dynamics, and thermodynamics of polymers, nanocomposites, and complex fluids across multiple length and time scales. At ORNL, I integrate coarse-grained and atomistic molecular dynamics simulations with theoretical frameworks to reveal the molecular mechanisms that drive macroscopic behavior in soft and hybrid materials. My work contributes to predictive modeling efforts that accelerate materials discovery and support the design of next-generation materials for energy, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing applications.I collaborate extensively with experimentalists and theorists to connect simulation and experiment, bridging fundamental science and applied innovation. My research has contributed to the understanding of polymer self-assembly, viscoelastic behavior, and interfacial phenomena in soft condensed matter systems.
