ABOUT JANICE Y. LEDERMAN

Jan Lederman is a former M&A lawyer at TDS, LLP, and currently is an early-stage investor and corporate and startup director. She was awarded a Doctor of Laws from the University of Manitoba in 2019 and is a former Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. She holds a Certificate in Negotiation from Harvard Law School and a Blue Belt in Innovation Engineering. Jan was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Award in 2012, and the Golden Jubilee Award 2002, in recognition of her volunteer contributions. She was awarded the Andre Maillot Award from United Way of Canada in 2001 and was honoured with the Distinguished Alumni Award of Excellence by the University of Manitoba in 2017.Jan currently is a director of several public and private company boards and is an active angel investor in startups in Canada & SE Asia. She is a former senior partner at Thompson Dorfman Sweatman, LLP. In her legal practice, Jan focused on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, finance, investment, and startups. Jan was for many years named to the Best Lawyers in Canada in Mergers and Acquisitions Law and Leveraged Buy-Outs and Private Equity Law. Jan also had a significant charity law practice, and was founding lecturer of the program on Philanthropy and Non-profit Organizations at the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. Jan completed two terms as a Director at Genome Canada, where she served as Chair of the Audit Committee. She is past Chair of the Board of Governors at the University of Manitoba; past Director at Economic Development Winnipeg; past Vice-Chair at Crown Corporations Council; past Chair of the United Way of Winnipeg; former member of the Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council; past Chair of Assiniboine Credit Union and past Director of Credit Union Central of Manitoba; and former member of the Practice and Ethics Committee at the Law Society of Manitoba.
