ABOUT OLIVERA JANKOVSKA

Jankovska is the dedicated leader of the City of Houston’s Mayor’s Office of Education and Youth Engagement, playing a pivotal role in shaping the city\'s future. With a commitment to empowering Houston’s youth from cradle to career, she focuses on fostering a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment. Her approach involves integrating the voices of young people into policies and programs, ensuring that Houston\'s development aligns with their needs and aspirations. In her role, Jankovska manages a substantial budget of $7.3 million, leveraging strategic initiatives and public-private partnerships to create a city where every individual thrives, contributing significantly to Houston’s success. The impact of her work is estimated at over $100 million for the city, highlighting the substantial positive influence she brings to the community.Before joining the Mayor’s Office, Jankovska demonstrated her passion for children’s rights as the UNICEF USA Community Engagement Associate for the Southwest Region. In this capacity, she coordinated efforts among over 500 public and private organizations, empowering over youth with the resources and skills needed to be effective global citizens.Jankovska is a published economist with a decade of international development experience. She serves as a Nonresident Fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, conducting research on energy topics.Her accomplishments have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2023 National Civic League “All-America Leader” award, the 2017 U.S. President Volunteer Service Award, and recognition as one of the Top 30 Influential Women of Houston. She was also honored with the 2015 United Macedonian’s Diaspora “40 under 40” award and received the Outstanding Young Alumna Award for 2018 at Virginia Tech. In 2009, she was the recipient of the Wall Street Journal Academic Achievement Award.Jankovska holds a master’s degree in applied economics from Virginia Tech, a bachelor’s in business from the University of Arkansas, and a social sector leadership certificate from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. Fluent in seven languages, she hails from Kriva Palanka, Macedonia. Beyond her community service, Jankovska is an accomplished author, having published an Amazon bestseller in the genre of children’s books.
