ABOUT JANJIRA SOMBATPOONSIRI
I have over 15 years of experience leading research projects in Thailand, Southeast Asia, and Europe (including Serbia and Germany). My research focuses on civil resistance, protest dynamics, social movements in autocracies, civic space, and digital mobilisation and technologically-assisted repression, using primarily qualitative methods but increasingly a mixed method approach (e.g, Social Network Analysis and Quantitative Content Analysis).I am soon to publish the book on digital repression and its impact on democracy in Thailand. My first English academic book is Humor and Nonviolent Struggle in Serbia (New York: Syracuse University Press, 2015). My publications have appeared in mostly top-ranked academic journals such as Democratization, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Contemporary Asia, International Journal of Communication, and Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations.I am a member of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s Civic Research Network and Digital Democracy Network; a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, University of Loughborough; an editorial board member of PROTEST Journal and the Journal of Nonviolence and Pacifism; and a consultant for the United Nations Development Programme Thailand.Previously, I was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Loughborough, the ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute (Singapore, 2021–2022), the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (Taiwan, 2020), and the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses (India, 2017).I\'m currently leading and co-leading three research projects in Thailand and GermanyDigital Authoritarianism through Lawfare in Asia (DiAL) at the GIGASouthern-Led Approaches to Democratic Resilience: Asia at Chulalongkorn UniversityOnline Influence Operations in Southeast Asia at Chulalongkorn University
