About Janice Grubin
Since completing my clerkship with the now-retired Honorable Stephen D. Gerling of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York in 1989, I have devoted the last four decades to the practice of insolvency law. I am the Co-Chair of Barclay Damon\'s Restructuring, Bankruptcy and Creditors\' Rights practice. My practice encompasses all aspects of bankruptcy matters, out of court restructurings and workouts for a range of parties in a variety of industries, both for-profit and not-for-profit in chapter 7 and chapter 11 cases and proceedings nationally and internationally. I have also served as a chapter 11 operating and post-confirmation trustee, examiner and chapter 7 trustee in cases pending in the Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of New York. In May, 2018, I was appointed to the Committee on Character and Fitness for the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division, First Department, which oversees admission to practice in New York for candidates residing in Manhattan and the Bronx. I currently serve on the Association Board of the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York and as its Vice-President and Co-Chair of its Judiciary Committee and am a member of the Path-to-the-Bench Working Groups for the New York and Connecticut chapters of the American Constitution Society. In 2025 I was appointed as a Commissioner to the American Bar Association\'s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Commission.I have managed client teams and assisted in the opening of, and headed, the New York City offices of two national law firms. I have participated and participate in firm management through board and committee service and actively contributing to financial oversight, diversity, mentoring and partner and associate recruitment programs and initiatives.I have been recognized with a BV Distinguished Martindale Hubbell Peer Review Rating and as a New York Metro Super Lawyer for Bankruptcy: Business, 20••••07 & 20••••23, by Law & Politics magazine and as a \"Top Female Attorney in New York,\" 2015, by Super Lawyers. I am also the recipient of the 2016 Committee Dedication Award presented by the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York, the 14th Annual Gates Award presented by Cardozo OUTLaw, 2019, the 2023 LGBTQ+ Leadership Award presented by the Tri-State Chapter of the National Diversity Council, and the 2024 Stonewall Award presented by the American Bar Association.
