ABOUT JANET BABIN
Right now I\'m happy to be working at Fordham University\'s WFUV as a news and podcast editor. Throughout my career I\'ve focused on crafting narratives that utilize natural conversation to move a story forward, regardless of how technical the subject matter. I\'ve written and reported for print, audio, video and podcasts about a wide array of subjects, from Donald Trump\'s first successful presidential run to the effects of climate change, including the devastating aftermath of superstorms. I\'ve also hosted podcasts about physics-heavy topics like the potential of superconductivity, the Large Hadron Collider, and the rise (then fall) of crypto and NFTs. One of the most rewarding stories I told was about AI that helps researchers to improve the lives of a dwindling population of Southern Resident orcas in the Pacific Northwest. The AI is still in use today. The program has received much wider coverage since the podcast was released in 2020. I\'m all about collaboration over competition. I\'m happiest when I can engage in productive discussions with sources - and colleagues - about inventive ways to solve entrenched problems. I honor the mentors, teachers and friends who have helped me to advance in my career despite great odds. I now work to be that mentor to others. When I\'m not pitching stories, reporting or editing, I enjoy spending time with my dogs and horses. And taking dance class in NYC.
