ABOUT JANELLE CLAUSEN

I am currently a Senior Program Associate on IRI Eurasia\'s Moldova team, where I support the implementation of democracy assistance programming in Moldova. This includes drafting reports for funders, handling procurement procedures, monitoring on-the-ground developments, financial tracking, and serving as a link between implementers and IRI HQ - to name a few things. I graduated from Georgetown University with an M.A. in Democracy and Governance. While there, I studied Ukrainian democratization, the role of assertive foreign policy in sustaining Russian autocracy, and how media landscapes impact democratic resilience. Additionally, I interned at the Center for European Policy analysis, International Republican Institute, and helped lead the publication of two issues of the academic journal \"Democracy and Society.\" I transitioned into democracy assistance work after years in local journalism. My award-winning work at Blank Slate Media focused on politics, breaking news, business, and other issues. I also spent four years studying journalism, working at campus publications like the Stony Brook Press and Stony Brook Independent, interning at local news outlets, and enjoying political science classes. Overall, my school and professional work have garnered more than a dozen awards for excellence. And this experience in journalism will always hold a special place in my heart.
