About Janeka Rector
With nearly two decades of experience in Development, I approach every project as a chance to envision excellent outcomes and then exceed expectations. Now, as a Major Gift officer at the University of Washington, I am driven to find more ways to support Higher Education and ensure everyone has an opportunity to be educated, supported, and successful. As a student, I immersed myself in all facets of the human experience: I was the station manager for UT Austin’s student television station. I regularly volunteered at Dragon Con, the largest multi-media pop culture convention event based in Atlanta, Georgia. I studied Japanese and explored the impact of Westernization on Japan and India. My broad range of interests prepared me well for a job in a field that provides resources and opportunities to connect people with their interests and passions. In my current role at the University of Washington, I work with alumni, donors, and other stakeholders to engage and support the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering. When I\'m not at my desk, I stay engaged with my local community through organizations like Families of Color in South Seattle. I also enjoy collaborating to create internal groups of belonging, such as our recently minted employee resource group, BIPOC S.W.A.G- our Staff-wide Affinity Group for the University of Washington\'s advancement staff of color who have intersectional identities and cultures. I thrive in environments where we can hold our heads high, work together as a community, and with transparency to find creative solutions to common, everyday problems.
