As a child I was always told you can’t make a living and change the world - that to be an advocate you’d have to give up everything you have, and give up everything else you want. If you don\'t, pets die. Lives suffer. It\'s never enough. I\'m 20 years into my animal career now - working with wildlife rehabbers, animal shelters, corporate and non-profit animal organizations and more. I\'ve lead some of the largest pet-media properties, won awards, been noted by TIME magazine and INC.com. My work matters, but ONLY because I refused to accept this myth as true. I’ve spent my career showing other animal professionals how, not only CAN you make a living doing what you care about, but you MUST retain the other things you care about to do your best, long-term work. I\'ve created the principle of #sustainablerespect for change-makers to help others identify not only how they need to make an impact in the world - but how they can do so most effectively by practicing sustainable respect with themselves as well. I and my team are living proof of this. I\'m a long-term foster mom for special-needs cats, wildlife transporter, adoption councilor and intercultural communications specialist who earns 6 figures while building a life of meaning - not only for myself, but for everyone we work with.
