About Jane Crayton She

I am a STEM educator dedicated to creating transformative learning experiences by integrating STEM and art (STEAM) through project-based, experiential learning. I currently direct the UWIN Makerspaces at the University of Wyoming, where I oversee three campus makerspaces that provide access to a wide range of machines, tools, materials, and supplies. These spaces are open to the public, fostering hands-on learning and creativity for students, faculty, and the community. My role is to ensure that these makerspaces offer the resources necessary to support innovation and provide opportunities for all to engage in experiential education and the innovation economy. In addition to my role at the University of Wyoming, I coordinate after-school maker programs that empower youth to explore emerging technologies such as 3D printing, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and e-textiles. I also serve as an instructor and practicum supervisor for the College of Education, guiding future educators as they apply experiential learning strategies in real-world settings. My experience spans non-profit and academic sectors, with contributions to NSF, DOD, and private foundation projects in fields ranging from aerospace and archaeology to fulldome immersive media.Specialties: Experiential Learning & Project-Based STEM Education Immersive Technology & Media for Education Game-Based & E-Learning Experiences Emergent Technology, PCB, CNC, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, etc. AR/VR/FD Technology Integration Maker/Hacker/Dorkbot Community Engagement Curriculum Development & Teaching Documentary & Graphic Arts Research & Grant Writing Public Speaking & Presenting Event & Conference Coordination

Art and Science have collided together in an awesome array of sights sounds and interactive collaboration that has changed my life. I am embracing digital art from an educational point of view and collaborating my love of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as a focus of my creative expression with art. I see myself as a transdisciplinary artist focused on STEM subjects through project & problem based art practice. My practice requires domain flexibility fostering innovation often not found in discipline based art practice. My interested in collaborative, interactive experiences with my audience creates alternative educational experiences for the public and myself. Critical web-based art spaces are an important aspect to the development of technology and art in my practice. Participating in collaborative, remote, streaming digital art projects has had an enlightening influence upon me, and my artistic expression through international binary and electronic mediums.I am deeply interested in the digital narrative and documentation process of new media. I have begun to re-establish my past through narrative themes, using scrapbook materials and old media to recreate stories and self portraits. My interest in guerrilla and installation art is rooted in political activism and my early experiences at Burning Man. I love to build, and create interactive installations in live public spaces that question peoples ideas, morals and stigmas. I collect original media to express ideas and themes about the world we live in, using integrated interactivity. I like to address life as seen from my unique scientific perspective or frame of reference, and I am able to accomplish this digitally through any medium, as a transdisciplinary artist.Since 2004 I have worked as a professional VJ collaborating my visual aesthetic with several live musical performances. I work with immersive multi-projection technology, image mapping and live interactivity.
