Families belong together. Village Roots works to ensure children can remain safely with their parents by stabilizing families during moments of crisis and helping prevent future separation. Many children enter foster care not because of abuse, but because their families lack stable housing or support. Others reunify with their parents but remain vulnerable without continued structure and community. We exist to change that trajectory. Through our Integrated Family Care (IFC) program, families are welcomed into mentor homes where they receive safe temporary housing and consistent support. Parents gain the space to rebuild stability, strengthen their families, and move toward permanent housing with greater confidence. While much of our work focuses on reunification and stabilization, we are equally committed to expanding prevention efforts so that fewer families reach the point of separation in the first place. Originally established as Apex Community Services, Village Roots builds on decades of experience serving families across Omaha. Today, we continue that work with a clear focus: strengthening families, and building a community where families are supported before and after crisis. Strong families build strong communities.
