I lead Arup\'s North West and Yorkshire team Transport Group, which comprises the Rail, Highways, Bridges & Civil Structures and Ground Engineering teams. I am responsible for the technical and commercial performance of the Group as well as contributing directly to projects myself. I have a wide range of experience in geotechnical engineering with my current focus being rail and highways, with a strong interest in the developing field of geotechnical asset management.

ABOUT JANE COLLINS
I am the leader of the Transport Group for Arup in the North West and Yorkshire, which includes our Rail, HIghways, Bridges & Civil Strucures and Ground Engineering teams, This role builds on my previous responsibilities leading our Ground Engineering team in the geography. I have extensive experience of leading geotechnical input for a wide range of projects in a range of sectors with a particular interest in finding value led solutions for clients with difficult sites.I have worked for Arup since graduating in Civil Engineering in 1987. After two years in Newcastle, I moved to Manchester where I am still based. During the 1990s I focussed on buildings projects providing foundation and basement solutions including a number of city centre developments in Manchester. I am especially proud of my work on the Bridgewater Hall where acoustic isolation of the foundations was key.Since then, my work has been largely on infrastructure projects and I have gained significant experience of rail and highway schemes, including 10 years providing technical support to the Highways Agency as a Geotechnical Advisor.I currently focus on rail projects where I lead the management of geotechnical risk through the development of appropriate solutions for earthworks, track bed, drainage, foundations (including OLE) and retaining walls for projects that have significant physical and time constraints. I enjoy the challenge of integrating my specialist input with that of other disciplines generating a \'whole asset\' approach to maximising the capacity, performance and reliability of our rail infrastructure.I take pride that my skills and role enable me to truly \'make a difference\'- fulfilling my objectives as a professional in the civil engineering industry and working with an employer whose culture encourages this. With this in mind, I am proud to be a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
