ABOUT JANE HUGHES
I am a construction lawyer specialising in non-contentious construction law. I have a particular interest in \"green\" contract drafting.I deal with: commercial construction contracts; consultants\' appointments; warranties and third party rights; novations; development management agreements; development agreements; funding agreements and associated documentation for commercial and residential developments, refurbishment projects and retrofitting projects, acting primarily for developers and employers but also for contractors and consultants. I have experience of acting in the private and public sector and act for private companies, councils, registered providers and private individuals.I support my real estate, commercial and banking colleagues, providing construction input into real estate transactions, commercial transactions and development funding. I advise on construction issues in large development projects and commercial landlord and tenant transactions.I have experience of construction litigation and have, in the past, handled a variety of disputes via litigation in the Technology and Construction Court, adjudication, arbitration and ADR. Disputes have included the construction of hotels, shopping centres, residential developments, commercial warehouses, petrol stations, offices and private residences. I advise clients during contractor insolvencies, dealing with immediate issues as well as project rescue, in conjunction with my insolvency and real estate colleagues.I have written regularly in the legal construction press including for Construction Law Magazine, and Construction Management.I previously sat as a lay member on a Food Standards Agency scientific advisory committee, the Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment, which provides independent scientific advice to government departments on the toxicity of chemicals.
