I have mastered the art of delayed — or outright failed — innovation. Since I understood the patterns of failure I can help in mastering the art of SUCCESS in innovation- In the world of innovation, I’ve experienced failure on so many levels- Researchers applying oversimplified models to complex technical tasks, offering overly optimistic economic perspectives - Innovators running sloppy functional tests to “validate” ideas that only work in the lab - Innovation supporters rushing project planning as deadlines loom - Incubators, accelerators, and development agencies struggling to assess their own performance and the real impact of their programs - Funders designing innovation support schemes that make sense to academics but leave industry practitioners scratching their heads - Innovation policies that completely overlook the critical interdependencies within global value chains At the heart of these challenges are companies interested in implementing solutions — but wary of the risks and costs innovation inevitably brings (especially at an early stage).
