ABOUT JAN SKERSWETAT
I am the first in my family to attend university and have dedicated my entire professional career to the field of eye care. My journey began with a degree in Ophthalmic Optics, which sparked my interest in the specialty and led me to pursue a M.Sc. in Optometry in Berlin. After graduating, I moved to the UK to pursue a Ph.D. in Vision Science, studying multistable perception. Following this, I worked as an optometry lecturer for two years before returning to full-time academic research in visual neuroscience at Northeastern University in Boston where I worked on basic and clinical behavioral vision science. in 2024, I moved to University of California, Irvine, where I work on photostress recovery in patients with retinal disorders, including age-related macula degeneration. Next to my academic pursue to expand the scope of vision testing beyond current capabilities, I am also working on inventing and translating innovations from bench to bedside, which led to the co-founding of the medical device company PerZeption Inc.
