ABOUT JAN BROOKES

Jan has had a varied and extensive career as a nurse, including working for the United Nations in an African refugee camp and holding a short service commission as a nursing officer in the RAF. Latterly, She worked as part of the management team in various care homes. Since relinquishing her nursing career, Jan has successfully completed an MSc in International Hospitality Management at the University of Derby, her dissertation identified the needs of people with dementia when using hotels. She has now returned to the Isle of Wight where she is the CEO of Isle Access CIO. Jan is an enthusiastic agent of change and demonstrates a flexible, open attitude to new ideas. She has participated in workshops for organisations, including BSI Standards. Isle Access aims to promote the Isle of Wight as an accessible and inclusive tourist destination by supporting, encouraging and training businesses and service providers to enable residents and tourists to experience a more accessible and inclusive island. Jan advises businesses and other organisations on improving access and inclusion for visitors, employees, and customers. She co-produced an Inclusive Tourism Strategy for Isle of Wight Council
