Joining Western Oregon University (WOU) as the new Director of Admissions. Lead the staff in continuing to develop the strategic recruitment plan for WOU, including high school and community relations, undergraduate recruitment, and prospective student outreach.The institution is at a time of new strategic planning. ABOUT JAMIERE ABNEY
I am a self-described \"realistic idealist.\" I promote seeing an ability to improve the world we live in while also not being blind to the ills that exist. As first-generation and Pell-eligible college graduate, social and structural inequity hits close to home. In my career and education I have sought opportunities to be a reliable support for young people seeking achievement and access to opportunity. This includes earning a Master’s in Education (HIgher Education) and pursuing my Doctor of Education (Higher Education Management) to build my understanding of the unique dynamics of colleges and universities, along with how they intersect with communities beyond the campus infrastructure. I am interested in ways to increase the social and human capital for individuals who have been historically excluded. I have had the pleasure to be a keynote speaker, profiled in articles, panelist, book contributer, and podcast guest, speaking on issues across higher education, college admissions, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Albemarle, NC is my hometown. My mother, who is my hero, and my younger sister still reside there. I am a lover of good food (I\'ll try anything once), sports (go UNC Tarheels basketball), and travel!
