ABOUT JAMIE BURNS

I help high-risk businesses across the North East stay legally compliant, operationally efficient, and incident-free — without bureaucracy or box-ticking.My approach to health and safety is shaped by 15 years of service in the British Army (Royal Armoured Corps), followed by private armed maritime security protecting commercial vessels in some of the world’s highest-risk environments, including the Gulf of Guinea and the Indian Ocean. These were high-stakes operations where poor decisions had immediate consequences for people, assets, and operations.A serious near-miss during this period fundamentally changed my outlook — shifting my focus from reacting to incidents to designing systems that prevent harm before it occurs.I invested heavily in professional development, completing multiple NEBOSH qualifications and a Level 6 Diploma, achieving Chartered IOSH (CMIOSH) status in 2019. Rather than stepping straight into consultancy, I learned the profession from the ground up — progressing from Health & Safety Officer through to HSEQ Coordinator and Health & Safety Manager within recycling and energy-generation businesses. That experience matters. It means I understand safety not just from a legal or technical standpoint, but from the perspective of operations, leadership, and real-world constraints. In 2021, I founded Safety Risk Solutions Ltd, a consultancy built on:Chartered professional competenceMilitary discipline and operational thinkingPractical, defensible compliance aligned with UK legislation and HSE expectationsI now support organisations across:Waste & Recycling • Waste-to-Energy • Construction • Manufacturing • Logistics • Transport • MaritimeMy work covers complex HSQE challenges, including management systems aligned to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001, audits, leadership engagement, and risk maturity improvement. I’m known for working effectively with senior leaders while remaining credible and respected on the shop floor. My aim is simple:To help organisations build safer, healthier, and more resilient workplaces — where risk is properly managed, directors are protected, and people go home safe.
