ABOUT JAMIE BIRD

I fell into firmware by accident, I just wanted to automate a few repetitive testing tasks, and that required teaching myself to code. Before long, I was neck-deep in coordinate transforms, timing diagrams, and interrupt handlers. and absolutely loving it. What began as a curiosity quickly turned into a career I’m still excited about every day.I\'m a Firmware Design Engineer with 7+ years of experience building and testing performance-critical embedded systems — often from a blank slate. I thrive in environments where there’s no blueprint, just a bold idea and a technical challenge waiting to be solved. My core expertise spans Embedded C/C++, embedded Rust, and Python/Micropython, with good knowledge of ARM Cortex-M devices, and experience with both RTOS and bare-metal environments. I’ve led development on GNSS-enabled devices, camera-tracking solutions, and simulation equipment.Fuelled by technical curiosity and a healthy disregard for clocking off on time, if the project is interesting, I\'m usually left to turn the lights off. I’m a big believer that curiosity beats credentials — skills and syntax can be learned, but the drive and mindset for solving problems is what really matters. If you’re looking for someone to follow the way \"it’s always been done\", I’m probably not the right fit. But if you\'re looking for someone who\'s excited by a challenge and not afraid to learn new things, then drop me a message about what you\'re working on, and let\'s get started.
