About James van Hess
Lifelong curious tinkerer. My interest in all things dynamic brought me back to school, for round three. Through passion, creativity, teamwork and efficiency, I hope to contribute to the design, implementation, and distribution of the next generation of mobility platforms that change the world.I studies Physics ins undergrad, and then got a Master of Science (Mech. Eng), both at Columbia University. While at university, with my passion for automotive, I chose to become a member of the Columbia University Formula Racing SAE team. On the team I served as a Lead System Engineer for the final three years, as VP of External Affairs for one year, and was the #2 driver for 2 competitions (arguably the best part ).General Characteristics-Deep understanding of vehicular embedded systems including hardware and software, with proof of accomplished & delivered product-General understanding of system or components consisting mechanical, electrical, thermal, CAN and other control system in automotive environment-Ability to interpret complex mechanical, electrical or system diagrams-Able to use engineering tools to diagnose root cause and solve vehicle hardware system issues-Work across team to support spec definitions, sensor benchmark and testing, hardware configuration and autonomous vehicle hardware build-Self-motivated team player, able to do hands-on work independently.
