About James Trimble

The best marketing is a great product.\" This quote has been attributed to many people, but my former boss John Platillero said it to me in 2018 and it has been one of the best guiding principles in my career. In my professional life, I strive to focus on solving problems and providing solutions that get the job done. I\'ve been told that I\'m an excellent listener, a great salesperson, and that I\'m very creative, but I\'ve learned time and time again that brilliant marketing and sales tactics are only as effective as the product that supports them. and the best product is built on the backbone of a finely tuned ear that\'s obsessed with customer feedback. The best questions to ask the market every day in Sales or Product are \"What are you trying to accomplish?\" and \"What is the problem you\'re trying to solve?\"A tenacious focus on product holds the answer to immense success. I\'ve found this to be true with my work in the software industry for the last 10 years, and also in the music industry for the last 19 years as a singer, songwriter, and performer. As a product manager, salesperson, and COO of a software company for 10 years I\'ve learned how to get to the root of the problem the market is trying to solve, to listen well, and then build to solve that problem. Don\'t chase day dreams, and don\'t get stuck on your old ideas. As a musician, when we\'re writing and / or recording a sub-par song we often say \"You know we\'re just putting lipstick on a pig, right?\" If the song stinks, the song stinks, no matter how many harmonies, synth layers, or guitar solos you put on it. It all comes down to,\"How great is the core product? And is the product solving a problem that a specific niche of customers will spend their money on?\" In my day to day, I try to put my family (wife and 3 children under 8) and my faith above all else. I aim to treat my neighbor as myself, to work with a servant\'s heart, and to wake up daily with an innovator\'s mind. Each step informs the next. Every great idea can always be shaped into something even greater, and I hope that the women and men around me feel the freedom to sharpen my ideas and the things I get the opportunity to help create.
