ABOUT RILEY JAMES SCHILLING
I live for building others up.I have always been intrigued with human potential. When I was 18 I worked with the Long Beach Unified School District in CA at one of their elementary schools. Working with these children ignited my drive to leave my mark on the world through the humans around me.At 21 I joined the United States Army as a Communication Systems Specialist which fed my curiosity and talent for technology. I was able to not only use satellites, computers, networks, and radios, but also coach and mentor my subordinates, cross train my peers, and earn the respect of leaders through competency. I taught classes and trained a variety of different people in skills they didn’t know they could possess. One particular deployment changed my life during that time. Afghanistan in 2009 was a pivotal point in my career. I was training and working with the Afghan National Army. This challenge sharpened and honed my communication talent and developed a foundation of cross culture communication that I would master in the coming years. My engagement with people from different countries opened my eyes to a new world and I capitalized on that by joining the US Army Special Forces. As a “Green Beret” I not only worked alongside and trained people of different nations but I also led them in very high-risk situations. The bond that I was able to form with these individuals was one of trust, mutual respect, and knowing that whatever challenge we faced we\'d be there for one another. I got the opportunity to plan, develop, and manage large projects with real world consequences. Most recently I’ve had the privilege of giving back to the Special Operations Community by instructing, evaluating, and shaping motivated individuals, from varying backgrounds, in the art of navigating human terrain.I compose the arrangement, so others’ talents shine.
