ABOUT JAMES RICCI

Driving transformation in e-mobility at a multi-generational Canadian family business.President of the Roy Foss Automotive Group. Founder of Landline eBikes. 15+ years of automotive industry experience. Automotive News Top 40 Under 40. Board Member, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto. Curious about the future of sustainable, personal mobility and how tech is changing how we get around.Mine was an unorthodox coming-of-age career journey. At 16, I started my first business, a car detailing service, which I built during my undergraduate study years into a 6-location, 13-employee operation. At 22, in a roundabout series of circumstances, I found myself with a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics selling used cars for my family dealership. It was a humbling transition for me at the time, but I went all-in and found purpose in building on my family’s legacy.Today, as president of the Roy Foss Automotive Group, I’m leading our 60-year-old family business through a generational transformation. The legacy automotive industry is being upended by parallel shifts towards electrification, disruptive new retail models, and innovative tech that’s changing how people move around. At the same time, our business is navigating an inter-generational transition that is forcing us to contemplate how our business will survive and thrive into future generations. As we navigate this shifts in our industry (and our business), I’m particularly interested in the impact on our customers: drivers. As an automotive professional on the front lines, my point of view is shaped by the voice of the customer and real-world experiences. My goal is to connect with fellow business and thought leaders, and to curate practical big ideas to help drive mobility futures worth getting excited about.
