ABOUT JAMES HARDY

I am a Toronto-based litigator with both Canadian and UK legal experience. My broad commercial litigation practice includes contractual disputes, auditor and other professional negligence actions, director and officer liability disputes, multi-jurisdictional disputes, regulatory proceedings and construction litigation. I have appeared as lead counsel and junior counsel before the Superior Court, the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal in Ontario.I completed my legal training in the UK, including a Masters in Law at the University of Cambridge, and started my career at the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority. I now work at TGF, a boutique restructuring, insolvency and litigation firm where I work with clients on their most difficult legal challenges.I am passionate about effective advocacy, written and oral, which grew out of my previous work as a debate and public speaking teacher. I complement this with a forensic approach to fact analysis, supported wherever possible by the latest legal tech. I enjoy being active in the legal community, and am currently on The Advocates’ Society’s Young Advocates’ Standing Committee, where I have a focus on the mentorship of early-career lawyers. I regularly write on a variety of legal topics, including the art of advocacy and the development of legal skills.
