ABOUT JAMES MAY

I am a program and project management professional with over 5 years of diverse experience in learning and development, writing, and teaching. This includes instructional design for corporate and higher education settings, teaching at the university level, classical music preparation and performance, proposal and grant writing, and technical audio editing. Proven ability to set project objectives and timelines, coordinate stakeholders for content delivery, and apply keen editorial oversight to \"translate\" specialist material to general knowledge. A critical thinker and learner, I adopt new systems quickly and uncover best practices immediately; improved team contribution by 500% through such guidance with RFPIO (see Proposal Writer, Accruent). I have previous experience in publishing, marketing, and arts administration. Across these roles I\'ve developed superb skills in project management, instructional design, communication, team building, developmental and copy editing, and grant writing and reviewing. I am also trained as a contemporary classical and experimental composer, with over 50 original works that have been performed internationally for orchestras, choirs, computers, and more. This has uniquely honed my collaboration skills and gives me creative perspective that I bring to bear in all my professional work. I use complex audio processing and editing software for this work, which means I can execute sophisticated media edits in any setting and learn new software tools rapidly. I have also written professionally about music, including for Sound American and RTÉ Culture. I was a member of the class of 2018–19 George Mitchell Scholars, funding an M.A. in Experimental Sound Practice at University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. I previously completed degrees in Music Theory/Composition (B.Mus.) and English (B.A.) at The College of Wooster, and an M.M. in Composition as a Bomhard Fellow at the University of Louisville.
