About James Weinberg
James is the CEO of FUSE, a national nonprofit that increases the effectiveness of local governments to build more equitable communities. FUSE embeds private sector executives in city and county agencies to lead projects that narrow racial disparities, improve public services, and accelerate systems change. Over the past 12 years, FUSE has led over 400 projects in 60 cities and counties across 27 states serving a total population of over 1 in 10 Americans.James previously served as Co-Founder & Chairman at AchieveMission, a management consulting firm that empowered nonprofits and foundations to enhance leadership development practices. Before that, James served as the Founder & CEO of Commongood Careers, a retained search firm that worked to address the unique recruiting needs of the nation\'s most entrepreneurial nonprofits, which was later acquired by Koya Leadership Partners. During his eight years as CEO, Commongood Careers placed more than 600 leaders in 200 organizations across 25 states and established itself as one of the social sector’s foremost thought leaders on talent-related issues. Previously, James was the National Development Director at BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life), where he helped the organization grow over three years from a $4 million to a $15 million budget while expanding tutoring and mentoring programs from 1,500 to over children nationally. Before that, he founded and served as Executive Director of the Homeless Children\'s Education Fund, where he advocated to ensure that children experiencing homelessness had access to the same educational opportunities as their peers.James served as the National Board Chair of CORO for over 10 years and has served on a dozen other nonprofit boards, including as Board Chair of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP), an affinity group of the Council on Foundations. James earned a Master’s in Public Policy & Management from Carnegie Mellon University, was a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs in Pittsburgh, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and classics from Tufts University.
