ABOUT JAMES
I am a public affairs professional dedicated to building stronger communities and enhancing the well-being of families and individuals through meaningful engagement and impactful initiatives. I currently oversee corporate communications and issues management at the City of Charlottetown, working closely with the mayor, council and senior leadership team. Previously, I advised MLAs as the Director of Communications for the Liberal Caucus on Prince Edward Island and provided communications advice and support to the party\'s 2023 election campaign. Before moving to P.E.I, I was a communications advisor for the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, where I led communications initiatives for key ministry operations. My government experience extends to working as a political advisor to three Ontario cabinet ministers as well as in the Office of the Premier of Ontario. Prior to my communications work, I was a journalist with The Expositor, Thomson Newspapers, The Canadian Press and CBC TV News. I’ve been involved with organizations like the Community One Foundation, Supporting Our Youth’s mentoring program for gay and lesbian youth and ACT (the AIDS Committee of Toronto), where I served as board vice-chair from 2018 to 2021. Outside of work, I explore urban stories through street photography. My work has been featured in juried shows, in Briarpatch Magazine in 2020, and in Rhythms of Change, a 2024 book by Daniels Corporation CEO Mitchell Cohen documenting the revitalization of Regent Park in Toronto.
