About James Haddad

As a geologist, I love trying to understand and explain planet-sized problems by looking down a microscope. The rocks on the ground and in your hand tell a story about the earth around us; my dissertation work focused on putting it all together. After finishing my PhD, I joined ARMI-MBH and moved my focus from rocks to metals. I stepped into a lab with excellent instrumentation, but no methods. Despite having limited previous experience with ICP-OES and WD-XRF, I set out to master both analytical techniques, while working to expand the laboratory by adding new instrumentation. I developed over twenty new test methods for the analysis of seemingly every metal alloy as well many geologic materials. While expanding geologic reference material production has been a challenge, I’ve been excited to take the lead on many of the key projects. I’ve collaborated with our sourcing specialist, reached out to peers and past colleagues to acquire interesting geologic materials, and have even gone into the field and personally collected starting materials. I\'ve written over 15 new SOPs and Test Methods for production and testing processes and trained others in their implantation. While the much of my professional background has been lab focused, I believe that my data analysis skills and expertise in project and budget management combined with my leadership capabilities would spell success in any environment.
