ABOUT JAMES FINNEY
After realising I’d grown too tall to be a horse racing jockey (aged about 10!), I decided I needed a new dream career. Accounting and finance was the obvious choice.I graduated in Accounting & Finance from Newcastle University in 2010 and joined PwC, qualifying as an ACA in 2013. After starting in tax, I moved into Transaction Services, working on a wide range of M&A deals from small bolt-ons to multi-billion pound private equity deals and IPOs.In 2018 I joined Sky Betting & Gaming in a corporate development role, shortly before its acquisition by The Stars Group. I later became Senior Manager in Investor Relations, while also being involved in strategy, M&A, capital markets, and external communications. I was involved in bringing TSG’s merger with Flutter to a successful completion in 2020 before moving into a group finance role with Flutter, delivering financial insights across a multi-billion pound leading global business. Since 2021 I’ve been at evoke plc, where my main focus and responsibility has been to lead investor relations, while also getting involved in group strategy, M&A, and competitor/market insight — supporting the executive team and the Board in shaping growth and direction. I enjoy building relationships, understanding what makes businesses tick, and distilling complex information into actionable insights (through my love of excel and PowerPoint!)
