A key member of the Legal Department in Roche\'s Canadian affiliate, reporting directly to the Vice President, Legal, I provide strategic legal advice to help accomplish the overall objectives of Roche Canada while complying with local laws and avoiding unacceptable risks. I work hard to understand our business, its people, products, pipeline, technology, markets, facilities, customers and competitors in order to identify trends and formulate legal structures and strategies accordingly.Specific responsibilities and duties include- Drafting and negotiating procurement contracts (goods, agency services, medical and clinical services, construction, etc.), clinical research agreements, commercial arrangements (distribution, marketing and related deals), product listing agreements (with public and private payers)- Managing local aspects of global mergers and acquisitions- Assisting in corporate governance and corporate secretary activities- Managing litigation- Undertaking special assignments and projects- Ensuring that company activities are conducted in compliance with law and policy- Ensuring that legal and contracting support is provided efficiently, in a manner that is compliant, accountable, traceable and in accordance with service level commitments- Making presentations to Roche personnel on legal issues as needed- Managing a team of 5 direct reportsSubject matter expertise includes- General legal advice for pharmaceuticals industry- Intellectual property (patents, copyright, trade-marks, trade secrets)- Labeling requirements for pharmaceutical products- Clinical research agreements (in Canada and globally)- Market access and product listing agreements (private/public)- Price regulation (PMPRB)- Pharmaceutical marketing and promotion- Patient support and other consumer-facing programs- Employment law- Competition law- Privacy and personal health information- Access to information & Vanessa\'s law- Ethics in clinical research
