SKILLS
ABOUT JAMES ZEMAITIS
I am a 20th and 21st Century craft and design curator and market expert. I specialize in museum relations, exhibitions, single-owner collections, and private secondary market sales at one of the world\'s leading galleries of historical and contemporary craft and design. With over 25 years of experience, I have a prominent curatorial voice in the American design community. I advise private clients and museums on acquisitions, de-accessioning, charitable donation appraisals and overall collection management. My expertise and interests spans a wide range of design movements and geographies, from Alvar Aalto to José Zanine Caldas. My happiest professional moments are spent with the Visiting Committee of the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, on which I have proudly served since 2007, and on various committees and projects associated with Manitoga: The Russel Wright Design Center, which I consider to be my \"locus amoenus.\" In my hometown of Mendham Township, NJ, I have served on the Historic Preservation Committee since 2018, and I am passionate about local environmental and land management issues. I am a founding member of the Mendham Alliance for Preservation and Conservation, and have served on the Mendham Township Open Space Committee since it was reinstated in January, 2024.
