About James Yu
James is a Senior Counsel in the Litigation and Labor & Employment Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. He has served as lead counsel in all phases of general business and commercial litigation, with particular expertise on trade secret protection, non-compete litigation, computer fraud, and creditors\' rights. James regularly advises clients on matters involving avoidance of litigation, pre-litigation risk management and strategy, information governance and security, e-discovery best practices, and alternative dispute resolutions. He has managed cases through summary judgment, settlement or trial in a variety of subject matters, including complex contract disputes, wage and hour class and collective actions, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, employment discrimination, insurance regulatory disputes, D&O liability, business torts, trademark infringement and toxic tort defense. His client representations include medical device manufacturers, technology companies, insurance carriers, financial institutions, hospitality groups, and human resources, among many others.As a recognized expert in trade secrets, James has regularly obtained or successfully contested non-compete restraining orders and injunctions in multiple jurisdictions. In addition, James has served as lead counsel for banking institutions, hedge funds, and investors in disputes relating to distressed assets, and among creditors of commercial mortgage loans comprised of multi-level debt structures. James is actively involved in pro bono work for the Asian-Pacific American community in New York, as well as clients referred by the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and the Lawyers Alliance for New York. He is a past officer and director of the Asian American Bar Association of New York. From to 2001, James served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ariel A. Rodriguez of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.
