James technically and commercial leads large teams of technologists, designers and consultants to discover and develop high-risk, high-reward disruptive technologies, presently focusing building and marketing capabilities in the industrial biotech and consumer sectors. Highlights in this role to date have been: leading a cross-discipline team to design medically approved emergency ventilator in just 6 weeks (£7M project), invention of an automated maggot rearing machine and getting multiple (sadly confidential) next-generation consumer electronics products on the shelf ($10M project). He especially enjoys ambitious projects that have a big societal impact.In his role as department leader he is responsible for the development and commercial performance of 5 groups of 50 engineers and product designers. He has a passion for strategic thinking, fostering technical talent, and nurturing innovation. A highlight in this role was the successful launch and company-wide adoption of a process and tool for capturing, triaging and exploiting ideas for internal innovation, with many successful outcomes. His background is in mechanical engineering, with a significant depth in thermofluidics including microfluidics, aerosol science and heat/mass transfer. He also has a wide breadth having worked on a wide range of client and personal projects; including data science, artificial intelligence, corporate finance and UX design.
