ABOUT JAMES RUIZ

I am excited to be part of a growing tech movement in oil and gas! As VP of New Ventures—an incubator rich in internal entrepreneurs building new business models—I enjoy working with a team of intelligent, tenacious, and talented people eager to create the next wave of energy opportunities. We focus on ESG, development planning, valuation, macro forecasting, and find purpose in helping our industry transition through an exciting period of change. Within the New Ventures incubator, we navigate from Ideation to Scale, searching for a Product Market Fit to build scalable business models.Co-founding my first oil and gas startup—Q Engineering—was one of the most difficult accomplishments I\'ve been through. My team helped the industry zoom into any shale acreage to find the market value—enabling M&A, development planning, and minerals valuation workflows in minutes. We bootstrapped our cloud-based tech-startup from idea to a successful exit in Jan. 2020, I couldn\'t have asked for a better team to share this experience with.My roots have grown from the O&G industry. Before tech, before startups, I learned from great mentors by practicing in the field M&A, exploration, asset development and operations. At Castleton Commodities I worked with a brilliant M&A team to evaluate $3 Bn in deal flow. Through diligence and commitment, we built a natural gas company in the Haynesville with a thesis of high gas prices and folds of increases from modern completion methods. While at Apache, my mentors fostered a love of solving problems in this industry, allowing me to build skills in North American Shale and internationally with projects in Egypt, Australia, and Argentina.I have a passion for M&A, investing, working with startups, software, cloud, and all things technology!Because I value Authenticity, Intelligence, Risk Taking, Courage, and Entrepreneurship, I pursue my purpose by working with fellow innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors to help shape this world.
