About James Norton

I am a passionate and people focused Learning and Development Leader who enjoys building a systematic Learning Strategy tying stakeholder needs with the Onboarding, Job Functional and On-going Training to deliver people focused results.When I started my career as an operator, I never dreamed that it would be the basis for the passion I have today around helping people throughout an organization become more comfortable in, and better at their jobs. I still remember starting, a teenager right out of high school. I spent 2 weeks shadowing someone and then the start of the 3rd week being told \"you\'re operating it on your own today\". There I was, in front of an expensive line to run it on my own……I have been blessed to work with some of the best leaders and teachers; and spent time in Operations, Quality Assurance, and Supplier Quality learning to think strategically, develop processes and/or improve them.I found my passion in the Training & Development field, and it has all been based on those first few weeks of my career and the thought process that there must be a better way. Over the years in Training and Development I have been able to apply my experience in very tactical ways building out training curriculum and designing/delivering classes. I have also found one of my strengths is listening to stakeholders and creating a comprehensive Needs Analysis with a complete training strategy and process from the outputs. Over my career I have had the opportunity to use these skills to build several training teams, build out technical training programs and processes, connect leadership competencies in the training programs for the leadership on the floor.In one of my last roles, I was asked to step in and lead the Warehouse function. After what was supposed to be a short coverage assignment, I presented the enormous need to focus in this area I was covering and develop the support and the competencies of leaders and the forklift operators. Wow what an opportunity to use the skills I had been teaching for years. Here I got to create the strategy, budgets, deploy large capital projects, introduce process excellence, production system deployment, training program and the list goes on. Utilizing all these skills and competencies we were able to go from the lowest performing department in the plant to leading the plant in performance.My Leadership Philosophy: I love to serve the people I work with every day, through listening and engaging all personnel in solutions.Key Competencies: Strategic Thinking, Inspiring and Motivating Teams, Change Management
