ABOUT JAMES MURRAY-SMITH

Business Leader | Safety and Security | Airline Operations | Supply Chain | Operational ImprovementAs part of the Oliver Wyman team I can utilise my deep and wide experience and bring value into the customers and industries I now work with. This includes a solid understanding in Safety and Security management and an extensive career within Engineering for one of the leading world airlines.I have been fortunate to enjoy a challenging and stimulating career during a period of significant aircraft fleet and organisational change. I have led most elements of the supply chain whilst taking on new aircraft types, numerous modification programs and projects, such as integrating a large airline following its acquisition and a significant fleet retirement program.I also spearheaded the change from owned to leased inventory for the new aircraft fleet types, this changed the direction of the Supply Chain into the future. As part of the leadership team, my focus on balancing financial and operational performance played a part in delivering record profits for the airline. Some other career highlights included the business and financial transformation of a mechanical component workshop with 180 staff, halving its cost base in four years. This demonstrated my ability to work with the Trade Unions and gain buy in for the changes from the staff. Another significant and dynamic experience, was my leadership within an engineering wide SAP implementation across 5500 staff, successfully replacing 150 systems and migrating vast amounts of critical airworthiness data. A key element of this, was being part of the change management processes by successfully engaging with all levels, from the Engineering Leadership team, through to the operational teams and the CAA. My talent has always been to build successful teams and drive change and delivery through collaboration, communication and stakeholder engagement to work across the business to achieve the best possible outcome.
