ABOUT JAMES MAXWELL-BARILLAS

Hi, my name is James Maxwell-Barillas. I am an Master of Political Management Student at Carleton University. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Honours) from Brock University. I was born in Ottawa, however I have spent significant time in places around the country and the world. Originating from Canada\'s capital sparked my interest in politics and leadership. I am a service-oriented student leader with extensive governance, advocacy, not-for-profit, and board experience. I have a track record of strong work ethic, diplomacy, problem solving, and attacking challenges with tenacity. I am able to be decisive and quickly move ideas to action. I am committed to continuous improvement and contributing to team success. Like most, my first jobs were in customer service and hospitality. However, it is at Brock where I grew a bigger voice, and found my passion serving and advocating for others. I have served the undergraduate population of Brock in a variety of roles within the Brock University Students\' Union (BUSU), culminating in terms in the two highest offices; Chair of the Board and President. During each of these terms, I took on additional duties due to vacancies in the roles of President and Vice President Student Services, respectively. At Brock, I also founded the Latinx & Hispanic Students’ Association, and served as its President. As for my future, I hope to work in the capacity that best allows me to make a positive impact on others\' lives and leave the world a better place than I found it. I hope to study law following my masters, and use the knowledge I gain for a career in the federal government. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, spending time with friends, and going to a variety of events to embrace myself in different cultures. My strengths include leadership, problem solving, communication, social media, and customer service.
