I love innovation and building teams and am most engaged when trying to figure out an improvement. I’m constantly looking at a better way to build that mousetrap, to build something new and creative. I never want to just ‘arrive,’ I want to be one step ahead of the competition. Why a career in Claims?My introduction to claims started in Workers Comp, I was thrown into the role and began growing and networking. I soon found my home on the liability side. I enjoy viewing claims from a business standpoint and resolving claims at the right place and right time. I enjoy leading a team that is focussed on mitigating high severity casualty claims, with creative disposition strategies. Innovation and AutomationIn my progressive tenure with AIG, I have built innovative and creative processes and programs, observing for a short period of time to discover how to improve, automate, and eliminate duplicate workstreams. In my recent SVP role, I created 2 different types of automated tools – the severity tool and interviewing tool – improving talent and streamlining the department to yield significant savings and improve paid results. How I build and motivate teamsI have a good eye for building impeccably trained and talented teams, with a focus on retention, promotional tracks, and finding ways to challenge team members with interesting claims. I embraced the work from home program, and had the most prepared team with COVID hit. When asked to create a claims office in a different city/ state, I offered to step in and successfully built a startup team. I was also able to turn around and successfully integrate an underperforming claims staff within 1 year. My PhilosophyAny mistake made is a lesson learned. Figure out how not to do it again and if you can put processes in place to eliminate the mistake or catch the error earlier, then it was a good lesson learned. You have to learn from the smaller mistakes to eliminate a costlier mistake down the road.
