ABOUT JAMES KAUFMAN

I am happy to share that I have joined Altos Labs as principal scientist lead for modeling and frameworks in the computational innovation hub for the Bay Area institute. Altos is a new venture focused on the biology of cellular health and cellular rejuvenation programming, with the goal of restoring cellular resilience and reversing disease damage. He received his B.A. in Physics from Cornell University and his PhD in Physics from U.C.S.B. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.At IBM he lead an effort to create a relational database linking genotype to phenotype across all microbial life. He was previously Principle Investigator for IBM Food Safety Consortium (2014)During his career at IBM Research Dr. Kaufman has made contributions to several fields ranging from simulation science to interoperability of electronic health records. His contributions include work on pattern formation, conducting polymers, diamond like carbon, superconductivity, experimental studies of the Moon Illusion, distributed computing, privacy protection, and Grid Middleware.He also co-lead the Eclipse Spatiotemporal Epidemiological Modeler project.
