About James Hyun
I am a molecular and cell biologist with expertise in how blood vessels respond to ischemic injury. In my research, I have used genetically modified mice in conjunction with preclinical mouse models of arterial disease. My studies focused on the evolutionarily conserved Notch signaling pathway which recapitulated aspects of vascular development following ischemia to discover therapeutic targets that can be exploited to enhance the revascularization of ischemic tissues. Throughout my years in scientific research, I have been fortunate to be at the forefront of transformative technologies, including algal biofuels and embryonic stem cells. These experiences had a profound impact and have led me to believe that many of the burgeoning challenges facing humanity can be mitigated with science and technology. With the advent of more innovative solutions, I believe it is equally important to promote biomedical literacy by sharing my scientific expertise. I look to engage the community to support their understanding, help inspire, and create new opportunities and applications for the next generation.
