ABOUT JAMES HOWSAM
A capable and energetic biodiversity net gain specialist based in Oxfordshire with experience and competency in various professional, academic, and voluntary ecology services. My passion is on-the-ground effective implementation of biodiversity net gain, securing strategic landscape-level gains for biodiversity. My main career goal is to use the opportunities provided by the Environment Act (specifically BNG) to secure the best possible outcomes for biodiversity as a result of development projects.I am a senior ecologist and biodiversity offsetting expert, based in Oxfordshire at Civity Ltd. We are a growing ecology-led team who are keen early-adopters of new technologies and changes in the industry. Our vision is to ensure we get the best outcomes for our clients, people impacted by the developments we facilitate, and biodiversity.I head-up complex Biodiversity Impact Assessment projects including biodiversity enhancement schemes and creation of biodiversity banks. I use my expertise of habitat condition assessments and the statutory biodiversity metric to work with landowners to create biodiversity units on their sites which can be brokered to developers in need of biodiversity offsetting. This involves design and budgeting of 30+ year management plans.I\'m highly skilled in the use of GIS for routine spatial analysis, biodiversity impact assessments and data presentation and am well accomplished in a broad range of ecological services.
