About James E. Ferguson

I am a research veterinarian in the medical device field with 24 years of experience and I am licensed in California. As the Attending Veterinarian at several CROs and my own company I have led and trained teams of veterinarians and animal technicians. Much of my career has involved designing, and executing GLP studies for FDA submission. I am an expert in knowing the correct animal model for a successful nonGLP/ GLP study. I have helped to turn small vivariums into larger vivariums. I have obtained AALAS certification of vivariums under my care. I have expertise in dealing with all the regulatory bodies involved in animal research such at the USDA and the FDA. Finally I still spend time in the operating room performing surgery and anesthesia and in the vivarium overseeing the care of multiple species and training technicians.My long experience with IACUC ensures that the IACUC is a help and not a hindrance to the investigators while most importantly taking care of the animals. Additionally my long IACUC experience ensures that the institution always has a good working relations with the USDA.The job of Attending Veterinarian requires successful collaboration with a wide variety of people from different fields. Thus I successfully work with benchtop scientists, engineers and quality assurance in order to get a product to market and at the same time ensure the welfare of the animals under my care.
