About James Carlson

Software Engineering I am passionate about software as a means to solving problems. I’ve been fortunate to work on a variety of projects across several organizations. This has exposed me to many ways of developing software, as well as their tradeoffs. Working on web applications, I\'ve held full-stack and front-end roles, and used React, Angular, Next.js, Module Federation (micro front-ends), Node.js, Laravel, Postgres, MySQL, Vercel, and Posthog. I am open to learning new technologies and find individual contribution gratifying!Servant LeadershipI studied management and leadership in undergraduate and PhD programs. Publishing multiple academic articles, teaching a leadership class, and receiving professional training (John Maxwell program) have helped me appreciate the vast amount of leadership approaches, philosophies, and styles. As opportunities to lead have come to me at work and in the community, I’ve found prioritizing the needs of others as an effective way to align my disposition with making an impact.Thoughtful Analysis and InsightsI love to engage with and make sense of complex situations or problems. My approach is to build understanding within myself and between others, and then to develop systems. I am obsessed with delivering value to stakeholders, and I engage at a deep level with the work to be done (rather than simply go through the motions and check boxes). I value opportunities to ask questions, examine assumptions, and gather additional information to unlock creative solutions.
