About James Catalano

I am an audit partner in Citrin Cooperman\'s financial services practice. Prior to working in public accounting, I was an accountant in private industry where I held assistant controller and controller positions for various companies, as well as having served as a Series 27 FINOP for a broker dealer. My diverse experience includes audits of private equity funds, venture capital funds, private credit funds, commodity pools, domestic and offshore fund vehicles, master-feeder funds, multiple-class funds and fund of funds, as well as audits of broker dealers, investment managers and general partner entities. I am well versed in ASC 946, Financial Services - Investment Companies, ASC 820, Fair Value Measurements and Disclosures, and the AICPA - Valuation of Portfolio Company Investments of Venture Capital and Private Equity Funds and Other Investment Companies - Accounting and Valuation Guide and have an in-depth knowledge of and experience in financial reporting. I understand operational issues specific to financial services firms, specifically newly launched alternative investment funds, and work with the relevant resources to bring best practices and solutions to my clients. In addition, during my time in public accounting, I have provided training to all levels of professionals as an instructor and have assisted in the development of various technical training programs.I earned a B.S. in management from SUNY Old Westbury and a MBA with a specialization in accountancy from Baruch College. I am a member of the Advisory Board for the Stan Ross Department of Accountancy in the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College. In the past, I have been involved as a youth sports coach for the Girls Softball League of Westfield, Westfield Baseball League, and Westfield Basketball Association. I also serve as a member of the Westfield Mental Health Council and am an Epilepsy Awareness Ambassador for the Epilepsy Foundation.
