ABOUT JAMES BRUCE
James joined Civic Engineers in January 2013 and became a Director of the company in October 2018. Prior to this he worked at both Mott McDonald and BDP. James has wide-ranging experience across multiple sectors. He currently leads teams on public building projects, large-scale commercial and residential developments, theatres, cultural and music venues. These projects often involve the successful transformation of historic or listed buildings, with his work restoring and refurbishing a number of Listed buildings in Manchester being shortlisted for regional awards.James has a keen interest in how pragmatic and economical use of engineering and construction methods can be used to make buildings. He works hard to uncover all potential value on a project and brings rationale to complex schemes through an understanding of specific needs and priorities from the outset. This approach has effectively delivered many high-profile mixed-use developments in challenging sites. In addition to structural engineering consultancy, James has acted as a visiting lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture, undertaking design project critiques and tutorials with final year (part II) architecture students. He has also acted as an Industrial Project Tutor for the University of Manchester Civil Engineering degree course, guiding final year students through their design projects.
