About James Beutjer

Currently, my journey as a Novel Author and a Volunteer at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital weaves together my love for storytelling with a commitment to community service. With experience in creative and poetry writing, I have completed but are polishings two novels in a larger series, setting the stage for their journey into publishing and other media. This is a lengthy project that I am shaping into the best possible draft accomplished in a solo effort and through my own unique writing voice and creative format.Another passion near and dear to my heart. In helping more of our Earth Angels in the hospital and healthcare industry. It has grown and developed over the two plus years I have been giving my time to mainly traumatic brain injury, concussion and stroke patients. I do visit and play with the pediatric patients sparingly (when there are those in need). One nurse calls me the \"Lifestyle Enrichment Expert\", where a more technical name is Unit Patient Support.My role as a volunteer harnesses my experiential skills, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to others\' recovery and growth. It can be an emotional endeavor but it is hard to deny such people who are in immense need at a crucial beginning of their recovery.I have a passion for football and basketball, am a former athlete who has shifted to an objective evaluator of talent and the real effects of winners and champions in team and individual sports. Versus spoiled talent, hordes of hype, or unrealized potential.The adversities faced in my life have not only shaped who I am but also infused my creative endeavors with depth and tenacity. Joining the Northwestern team at Marianjoy leverages, while enrichening and deepening these qualities. I am a unit patient support volunteer, and I take this role very seriously, but also try to bring a gentle, kind presence to the struggling patients I spend time with. I am entrusted to provide a volunteer\'s heart worth of care. Both for family members and patients dealing with some of the most complicated forms of chronic recovery. We work together to empower, inspire, uplift, and motivate individuals through rehabilitative support. This path reflects my core mission: to connect, inspire, and foster resilience through the power of creative expression.Northwestern has done a phenomenal job creating and advancing the great intuition that current patients do experience positive benefits having limited but positively engaged social interactions that can be simple but efficient and singly focused, as to keep those brain wheels churning, recovering.
